Our Mission

Each year, the foundation disburses two percent of its total portfolio value. The remaining capital stays invested, conservatively, for stable long-term growth.

Giving only what the endowment can comfortably spare means the capital base is never eroded. The foundation grows in real terms, and its giving grows with it.

The annual two percent is divided equally among three branches of the Saxby and Keeley families, in South Africa and abroad. Each branch directs its share toward the organisations it believes in, within the foundation’s areas and rules.

An annual review checks the portfolio’s performance against the inflation-plus-two-percent goal, and adjusts course as markets and circumstances change.

Poverty relief

We can fund

The organisation must have the appropriate PBO and Section 18A approval from SARS.

The project must genuinely serve communities or people in need, rather than private interests.

The work must fall within the public-benefit activities allowed by SARS and within the Foundation’s own funding areas.

We look for organisations with sound governance, clear accountability and a responsible approach to using donated funds.

We cannot fund

We do not make grants directly to individuals or families.

We cannot fund organisations or projects established primarily to make a profit.

Being a good cause or a registered NPO is not, on its own, sufficient for funding under our Section 18A mandate.

We cannot fund activities that fall outside the Foundation’s approved areas of giving or the public-benefit activities permitted by SARS.
