Hillcrest Aids

Supporting Those Affected by HIV and AIDS

The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust has been serving communities affected by HIV and AIDS in KwaZulu-Natal for more than three decades. Based in Hillcrest and working extensively throughout the Valley of 1000 Hills, HACT provides healthcare, HIV prevention and education, palliative care, support for vulnerable children and families, and programmes aimed at helping people build more secure and independent lives.

For the Saxby family, the work of HACT has a particularly personal significance. The family has experienced the loss of loved ones to HIV and AIDS, making the challenges faced by individuals and families living with the disease especially close to their hearts. Supporting an organisation that provides care, dignity and hope to people facing similar circumstances therefore felt particularly meaningful.

Before selecting HACT for support, members of the family visited the organisation, met with its leadership and staff, and took time to understand both its work and the way in which it is managed. What stood out was not only the breadth of the services being provided, but the compassion and dignity with which those services are delivered.

HACT’s Othandweni Respite Unit is one example of this approach, providing specialised respite and palliative care to seriously ill adults and children. Alongside healthcare, the organisation also focuses on education, skills development and economic empowerment, recognising that lasting change often requires more than meeting an immediate need.

This combination of compassionate care, practical assistance and long-term empowerment strongly reflects the values of the Roger & Beryl Saxby Foundation.

The Foundation believes that its role is to identify well-run organisations doing important work, satisfy itself that the organisation is responsible and effective, provide meaningful support, and then trust the people closest to the community to get on with what they do best.

The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust is an organisation the family is proud to support.
